CLINTONVILLE WINS B.A.B.A. TITLE

The Clintonville A's won the 70th Badger Amateur Baseball Association Grand Championship Sunday with a 4-0 victory over Elderon at Don Jirschele Stadium in Clintonville.
It's was the A's 14th league title.

Prior to the start of Sunday's title contest, a moment of silence was observed for Wayne "Swede" Waukau, 1993 title game MVP who passed away earlier in the day.

Clintonville took a 2-0 second inning lead thanks to some wildness by Elderon starter Rick Boda. DeanMuthig opened the frame with a walk and Jansen VanDaalwyk reached on an error.  Jesse Wiley then flew out to right and Jared Westphal popped to short. Pat VanDaalwyk then singled to load the bases and Parker Mendl and Garrick Morgan drew consecutive walks as the A's scored twice.

The A's added a run in the fourth when Wiley singled to open the frame and later scored on Morgan's fielder's choice.  Their final run came in the fifth as Nick Hogan singled and stole second. He moved to third on an error and scored on Muthig's sac fly to center.

Elderon threatened in the first when Matt Meronk banged a two-out double but the threat ended with a ground out to second by Brandon Groshek. In the third the WhiskeyJacks had runners on first and second as Kasey Morgan walked and Marv Meronk singled with two out, but Matt Meronk fanned to end the frame. Elderon had only two runners reach base the rest of the way - Troy Leiskau on a fielder's choice in the fourth and Morgan on a walk in the eighth.

Pat VanDaalwyk, game Most Valuable Player, was the winning pitcher. He allowed just four hits, fanned seven and walked only two in a complete game, 110 pitch performance. Rick Boda took the loss. He worked five innings, allowing four runs on five hits. He fanned one and walked two. Reliever AlexKrumins worked three innings. He allowed one hit while striking out four and walking three.

Clintonville had six hits in the contest. Nick Hogan, John Dunlavy, Jesse Wiley, Scott Schoenike, Pat VanDaalwyk and Parker Mendl all had one hit a apiece.  Elderon totaled four hits. Matt Meronk had a double while Marv Meronk, Brandon Groshek and Troy Leiskau had singles.

Umpires for the title game included:
Ken Dayton (plate), Kevin Moore, Rock Butalla, and Randy Kuivinen (bases).

Following the game, which drew a crowd in access of 1000 spectators, awards were presented by Commissioner Craig Brei and Sec/Treas Gordy Boldig.
Thanks go out to WDUX 800AM and their fine sponsors for again broadcasting the game live.
